두 겹의 대화 : 너와 나, 마주 보고 이야기하다

그림작가 이유림의 전시 <두 겹의 대화 : 너와 나, 마주 보고 이야기하다>는 나와 타인 그리고 세상이 조금씩 달라지면서 찾아오는 불안의 순간을 마주 보고 기록한 작가의 첫 번째 전시이다.

작가의 이야기에는 소녀와 코끼리가 등장한다. 외형적으로 작고, 마르고, 여린 이미지와 달리 작가의 내면에는 무겁고, 크고, 거대한 코끼리가 존재한다. 코끼리는 무너지지 않을 것 같은 존재, 언제나 그대로 있을 것 같은 존재, 그래서 작가가 의지하고 기댈 수 있는 존재이기도 하다. 이 존재는 나를 중심으로 나와 나, 나와 타인, 나와 세상의 관계 속에서 끊임없이 변하기도 한다. 작가의 작업은 나이기도 너이기도 한 소녀와 코끼리를 통해 작가 자신이 무엇인지 찾아가는 일련의 과정이다.

‘두 겹의 대화’는 소녀와 코끼리, 나와 나, 나와 타인, 나와 세상의 대화를 넘어, 글과 그림, 그림과 그림의 대화까지 포괄하며, 내용과 형식들이 대화하고 있음을 책이라는 매체를 통해 말한다. 이번 전시 <두 겹의 대화 : 너와 나, 마주 보고 이야기하다>에서 작가는 책과 같이 평면 속에만 있던 소녀와 코끼리의 이미지를 공간 속으로 확장하여 연출한다.

Two Layers of Conversation : You and I, We face each other

​

The exhibition of Yurim Lee , We face each other, is the artist’s first exhibition, presenting a record of the anxious moments when a gap is created between me, other people, and the world.

In the artist’s story, there are a girl and an elephant. Unlike a small, thin, and the expected tender look, there is a heavy, big, and giant elephant in the artist’s inner world. This elephant is also like an existence that does not seem to fall off, and an existence that would not change so that the artist can always lean and rest on it. This existence, however, continuously changes in the relationship between me and me, others and me, and the world and me around me. This process of working is a series of the procedure, looking for who she is through a girl and an elephant that can also be every other person.

'Two Layers of Conversation' show how context and form make a conversation through a book by including the conversation between writing and image, and image, and image above the conversation between a girl and an elephant, me and me, others and me, and the world and me. The artist extends the image of a girl and elephant on a book into space in this exhibition.
